FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Wondergy launches Potato Chip Challenge

Philadelphia, PA - October 20, 2009 - Wondergy, the science educational entertainment company, is launching the Potato Chip Challenge, a national engineering competition for students in grades K-12. Facing off against aspiring young engineers across the nation, each student will tackle a simple challenge: send a potato chip across the country by US Mail and attempt to have it arrive unbroken.

Students will be challenged to engineer a package that will protect that potato chip using the smallest and lightest package that still protects the chip. The challenge aligns to National Science Standards while giving students an exciting national competition in which to test their engineering skills.

The Potato Chip Challenge did not start with Wondergy. For years, talented and resourceful teachers around the country have had their classes mail chips to themselves - educational, but with little social excitement. Wondergy discovered a network of teachers who had been sending chips between each other, but found that the network had recently failed because its coordinator had retired.

Building on the past, Wondergy has taken up the challenge to resurrect the Potato Chip Challenge, improve it, and expand it. Wondergy's goal is to develop lesson plans to help teachers bring out the science in the challenge, build an awesome website to manage the challenge and facilitate collaboration among students and teachers, and to find sponsors to help expand the challenge far beyond the original teacher network.

Teachers, homeschoolers, and anyone who might want to participate should visit www.PotatoChipChallenge.com now to join the announcement mailing list for the challenge. The temporary website will be replaced by a new design in December.

Final registration for the challenge will close in mid-January 2010, and the chip packages must be created by the end of January. Chips will be mailed and measured in February and March, with awards and recognition coming in April.

Participation in the Potato Chip Challenge is free; each entrant supplies their own materials and postage. Please visit www.PotatoChipChallenge.com for more information.
